How To Place An Ad On Facebook

Facebook was recently valued at over $100 billion in large part due to its potential to sell advertising to businesses. If you are running a business, Facebook represents a golden opportunity to reach specific groups of people, based on what they are interested in or what demographic they fall into. If you are already using a pay-per-click advertising strategy to reach your customers, you may want to consider implementing some Facebook ads as well. Here are the basics of how to set up an ad campaign on Facebook:

Getting Started?

In order to set up ads on Facebook, you will need to create a Facebook account if you don’t have one already. Login to your account and then go to the advertising page of Facebook. Down at the bottom of any page, you’ll see a link that says “advertise.” Once you get to this page, you’ll need to click on a green button up in the top right that says “Create an Ad.”

Creating Your Ad?

After you click on the “Create an Ad” button, you be taken to a new screen where you have the opportunity to start making the advertisement that people will see on Facebook. Start out by choosing whether you want the ad to take people to an external website or to a Facebook page. Then enter the URL of the page that you want people to go to in the next box.

At that point, you will need to create the title and the text of the ad itself. Try to craft a title that gets people’s attention. In the body of the ad, you can write a little bit more text that explains what it is that you’re offering. Try to be descriptive without being too lengthy.

After you have created the text for your ad, you also have the opportunity to upload a photo. Try to choose a photo that portrays something about your business without trying to be too clever. Once you have uploaded a photo, you can then preview the ad down at the bottom of the page. If you don’t like the way that the ad looks, you can tweak any of the parts of the ad to make it look more appealing.

Targeting the Ad?

Once you have created the advertisement, you have the option of selecting a number of different ways to target the ad. This allows you to choose who you want to see the ad. One option that you can choose is to target people within a certain geographic region. For example, you could choose to target every Facebook user within a 50 mile radius of a town. You also have the option of targeting a specific age or gender. If you have a product or service that caters to a specific demographic, this can be a good tool to use.

One of the nice things about creating ads on Facebook is that you can target people based on interests. When someone “Likes” a page on Facebook or on an external website, Facebook keeps track of this information and uses it to help advertisers.

Budgeting and Billing?

After you have chosen the specifics for your ad, you will then need to create a budget and set up the billing. You will need to enter your payment information into the system, and set the daily budget for your ads. At that point, you can turn the ads on, and they will begin running on the network shortly.

Creating a Facebook ad is an excellent way to extend the reach of your small business in a sometimes cluttered social media world. The benefits of Facebook ads is that you can target them to certain demographics and track their click-thru success fairly inexpensively.
