If you're struggling to convert your email list into buyers, this video will show you how. Here's a little secret- the majority of people who buy from your emails are not new customers or subscribers. They are existing clients that have purchased in the past but haven't bought recently enough for their email address to be on your customer list. It's time to find out what these inactive customers want and then give it to them!

Your email list like a slot machine, you spent hours writing great emails, you send them
0:06
and you get crickets back. What's the point of having an email list if no one is buying
0:13
I'm even a tailor. I'm the publisher of DIY marketers and the host of Bizapalooza chat
0:17
And in this session, we're going to share a recipe for converting your email readers into buyers
0:30
With me today is speaker marketing automation expert whose biggest goal in life is to meet cool people
0:50
Please join me and welcoming Eli Delaney. Hey, Eli. Hello, my friend
0:56
How are you? I am just doing great. I am so excited
0:59
to listen to your email revitalizing recipe. Yes. Because I can use all the email tips I can get
1:09
Email is not a strength for me. So what is your customer getting recipe and what problem does it solve
1:16
Okay. So we'll start with the problem that it solves. A lot of people out there, they have a list
1:22
They've been told start with the list. The money's in the list, all that kind of stuff
1:26
The key is the money is not in the list. the money is in your relationship with the list. And that is the significant difference
1:35
And so what I'm going to share with you is something that I do. This is something that I give
1:39
pretty much every one of my clients as the starting point when we work together because
1:44
it is going to give them an inflection of several different things. Number one is it's like
1:51
adding gasoline to the fire. It is going to take what you have that may or may not be
1:58
working at all. For some people, they have a list, they've done nothing with it. Some people
2:02
they set out a newsletter. It's doing okay. Some people spam their list every other day and nobody
2:08
really wants to listen to them anyway. So how do we fix all of that? So the first thing is it's going to
2:14
fix all three of those problems. And then it's also going to be a great way to potentially make some
2:21
cash very, very quickly just because of the shift in the language you use
2:28
Okay. So here's what I want you to do. And you're going to want to write this down because this is very, very important is you're going to send an email to the people in your list that have been on your list for at least 45 days. Okay. Anybody before that, you don't necessarily have to do that with those people because we're going to shift things moving forward anyway. But for these people, what you're going to do is you're going to send an email, no fancy templates, no fancy templates, no
2:58
fancy graphics. It's going to be straight text, nothing, no pictures, no fancy signature at the bottom
3:05
any of that kind of stuff. Imagine you just opened up Gmail and sent an email to your friend
3:12
Something to the effect of subject line is, I've been such a slacker. I like that one personally
3:19
because it fits my personalities. That's not your personality. You can change a little bit. It's like, you know what? You can say, I feel like I've dropped the ball. Or maybe I have
3:28
haven't been doing this right or something to grab their attention right out of the game
3:33
And then you start with you know hey there Now for me that how I talk to people You know I do that even in face to face when I see somebody we walk up across the room I going to walk up to you Hey there how it going And so that my language You can personalize it with their name if you want to
3:48
I don't do that. And I don't do it on purpose because some people, when they get in your list, they use silly names that you don't want to be using
3:56
You know, hey there, Mickey Mouse, you know, things like that, right? So I just go, hey there, I feel like I haven't done a great job of building our relationship the way I really should
4:07
be. And I want you to know, first and foremost, I care about you as a person, as a client
4:14
and somebody who is in my world. I haven't stayed in touch the way I should be, and that's
4:20
going to change moving forward. I would love to chat with you and see what's going on
4:27
Tell me what's going on in your business right now. I want to see if there's anything I can do
4:33
to help you out. Even if it's not my services, maybe it's just a connection with somebody I know
4:40
Just reply back. Now, that's just off the top of my head version of this. I actually have a full
4:45
script that I use for this, but this is kind of an idea, right? Use your own language, use your voice
4:51
but keep it very simple. All you're doing is basically saying, you know what? Hey, I've been a slacker
4:56
I haven't done this the right way. I want to make it better. What are you up to? How can I help you
5:01
and send that email out. Okay. Now, I have had, I had one client who sends this email out, and I gave her the script
5:11
and I said, go do this, and she wrote it down. She sent it out that later that day, I was like, we had a call first thing in the morning
5:18
She sent it out like an hour later, and I was on her list, so I got that
5:22
And I replied back to going, that was awesome, great job. Tell me how it works
5:27
And she replies back, oh, my gosh, she's like, this has. been amazing in less than two hours. I've had more response than I've had in any of my emails
5:40
ever. Now, she opened up the doors for conversations because now people are sharing this stuff
5:48
with them. I had somebody else who did the same basic idea. He comes back. He sends this email at
5:53
8 a.m. Eastern. Now, I'm on the Pacific side. So at 8 a.m. Pacific, I see this email, and he says
6:01
It's been two hours. I've already got over 20 responses. By the end of the week, he had taken
6:09
those people, had conversations with them, and closed one $500 a month client out of those 20
6:17
conversations. People that were already on his list. He didn't have to go searching for him
6:22
He didn't pay for him. He didn't go speaking. He didn't go to a live networking event
6:25
Any of that I said, these are people he already was connected to. my favorite stories from somebody else we did this with. We actually did this as a full campaign
6:34
So we wrote three emails that we're going to have two more follow-ups to this. She sends out this email two hours after sending it. She replies back to him, goes, Eli, we need to stop the entire campaign
6:45
Everybody's responded. Like, what do you mean? Everybody's responded. She's like, no, I mean it
6:51
Everybody has responded. I end up talking to her, lo and behold, it was 100%
6:57
And guess what By the end of the week she did over in sales And she hadn even been selling anything The email is nothing but a reaching out saying I have dropped the ball I want to fix this How are you doing What can I help you with That it That all there is to it And it is amazing how one simple little script one simple little email can open up massive doors and reactivate the relationship with your
7:37
list. So that's my tip. Super simple. It is something that literally you can do and you can send this to
7:44
your list in the next half an hour. And if you do it, please, please, please. If you do this
7:50
reach out to me. I'm easy to find social media email any of that. I'm easy to find
7:57
Chase me down and tell me what happened. How did it work? Because I love hearing these stories
8:04
Well, Eli, I love that. And I would try that. Except that I now I'm going to ask her some free consulting. So I trashed my old email list
8:19
Now I still have them. Okay. But I have not, you know, I just didn't feel comfortable reaching out to them
8:28
And I don't know. I've heard of a lot of people doing this, right? GDPR happened
8:33
A lot of things happen. And I have heard of a lot of people say, you know what? I'm setting this aside and I'm going to start fresh
8:41
So now my question is, how do you, if you, if you
8:49
If you have a list that's maybe not in your email service provider anymore or whatever
8:55
is there a way to use this strategy without getting into trouble
9:01
You can do it. You can send these emails through like your, like Gmail or whatever emails is using
9:08
Yeah, like do little, like do little things. Yeah, I don't, I don't recommend doing the blind carbon copy type of thing
9:16
there are systems certain CRM systems that you can you can import people if it's a small list
9:23
and then mail in them in that kind of situation the general rule of thumb don't buy a list
9:28
and import it and no no I'm talking about people like me who had a sizable list yeah but
9:36
now that list has been like sitting there for a few years like you haven't used it yeah so
9:42
are they really dead Eli are my people dead? I would challenge you on that, actually
9:48
I would challenge you that they are not as dead as you might think. Because if you go at it in this aspect, it can really open up some doors
9:57
Well, that's exciting. You can change it. You can change it a little bit and just say, hey, you know, we've been, you know, we've been in communication in the past
10:07
I dropped the ball. I've done a poor job. And I've realized I really need to fix that
10:13
And I wanted to rekindle this relationship. And all it is is basically coming from a place, throwing yourself under the bus
10:19
That's really what it's about, right? If you do that and you qualify, hey, I know I haven't stayed in touch with you
10:29
This is, and if you have a way to put this like you, your segmented your list, you have
10:33
them tagged or anything like that, you can even do this a little bit more work, but you can basically
10:37
break it down and say, you know, you've been part of my Visipalooza event or, you know, things like
10:43
that you can help rekindle the memory of where they came from because that's the most important
10:49
thing you they need to remember who you are and why you might be connecting with them because i've had
10:57
that where out of nowhere six months after maybe i've even bought something from somebody but they did
11:03
no follow up and six months later they selling me something else i immediately hit spam because I don know who this guy is right Right So by coming at it in a softer way you saying hey you know what I know I dropped the ball I been up to a lot of crazy stuff I want to hear what you been up to Let reconnect here What ends up doing is it brings down the walls They like oh yeah yeah now I remember you And I actually have a client that we did this with And she came to me
11:33
and she was like, I'm just going to burn my list. I'm going to start all over. And I was like, I want you to try this first
11:39
And so we wrote a three email sequence for her to help her kind of ease them into it
11:45
Her starting point. So every email she had sent out before we started working with her was under a 7% open rate
11:55
The emails that we started with, first one was 9%. The second one was 11%
12:02
the third one was 18%. So what are the other, like how did, if the first one is, I'm a slacker, blah, blah, blah, what would
12:11
the second one be like? The second and the third one are just anybody who doesn't respond
12:17
This is where your CRM system does some little more advanced stuff. You actually, anybody who hasn't responded to the first two, you then say, hey, I sent an email
12:26
a couple of days ago. I just want to check in, make sure you got it
12:30
All I was doing was just checking, see, and how. you're doing what's up to and try to reconnect this relationship that I haven't done a good job with
12:37
That's kind of the gist of it. I do have scripts. These are the things that we do with clients
12:42
but this gives you enough to work with, right? It's a starting point. Go play with it. And we'll do that
12:48
Like we'll do one and then we'll do another one two days later and another one maybe three days later or something like that
12:54
It's just amazing how powerful it can be. Super exciting. So I got to ask Eli, is there something
13:02
thing that you're sharing with the audience today. Oh, what do I want to share with you guys today
13:09
You know what I'm saying? Like in your, do you have a special? Do you have an offer
13:14
Do you have? You know what? I change stuff all the time. So reality is that I have different, different lead magnet kind of things, you know
13:24
freebie cool stuff that I like sharing with people. Here's what I want people to do
13:29
I want people to go to my hubs. site. It's connect withelai.com, and it is ELY. Okay, connect withelie.com. Go there and reach out to me
13:42
Okay. That's good. You can even, you can send me a text if you want to, okay. My, my contact
13:47
information is there. You can book a call to talk to me. I love meeting cool people, as you see above
13:51
my head, right? This is my favorite thing to do. So connect with me, okay? Connect with me and
13:56
and say that you heard me from this, because that's going to definitely put you at the top of the line
14:02
conversation because what I just shared right now literally is like a tiny, tiny bit of some of the
14:08
fun stuff that I like to do. I like to share on all kinds of fun stuff. And if we can get connected
14:14
and I can help point you in the right direction and help you fix those lists and have better
14:19
communications with people and, of course, meet cool people, then that's what I want to do. So please
14:25
please, please, just connect with me. I love that. That's my call to action too. I love that. There's
14:31
nothing more satisfying. Eli, thank you for that simple, short tip. I know. I've got my notes
14:38
I'm ready to go. Thank you, Eli. Thank you so much for having me. It's my pleasure
