And in this session, you're going to get a simple recipe for jump-starting a conversation
0:28
on LinkedIn. you have never even considered. With me today is Beth Granger, LinkedIn expert, professional speaker, networker
0:52
Welcome, Beth. Thank you. Great to be here. Excellent. Excellent. So tell me about this super cool, I don't even want to call it a hack
1:01
It's just like a super cool way to use LinkedIn that's right in front of your face. Yeah, I will tell you, it's interesting when I figured out what I wanted to do with this information
1:12
LinkedIn gives you all sorts of information, but they don't tell you what to do with it
1:16
I not sure they even know So the thinking is if a first connection so someone you connected to presumably you know them or at some point met them in some way looks at your profile
1:32
and you haven't spoken to them in a while, there's a reason. Now, it might be nothing
1:39
might be they want to see how to spell your name, I don't know, something not important, but
1:44
it allows you to do two very important things. First, it allows you to keep in touch with your
1:51
network and it allows you to speed up the possibility of a client, an introduction
1:58
a speaking gig, whatever it might be. Example, someone looked at my profile, first connection
2:05
I hadn't spoken to him in ages. So this is key. The key thing is if you haven't spoken to
2:10
If you spoke to the person that day, you know why they were there. I hadn't spoken to him
2:15
I reached out. I said, hey, how are you doing? And he said, oh, yes, Susan gave me your name as the LinkedIn expert
2:23
That led to a client. Now, what if Susan had given him three names and he called someone else first and didn't
2:30
get to me? What if he got too busy and didn't call me? So by noticing that he was there and reaching out, and again, even if it wasn't something
2:39
like that even if it was just something not as important but I reached out it a way to keep in touch There was a reason he was there So I reached out back And what I do is I don say
2:51
what do you want? I typically say something like, notice you stopped by my profile. How are you
2:58
Boom. That leaves it. It lets the person just say, Hey, I'm doing fine. It lets the person say
3:03
oh, I meant to call you. And it starts a conversation. I just love that tip. It's so
3:11
simple. It's so easy. And it does the trigger thing, which is like, pay attention to who
3:17
checked out your profile. And I can say to everyone in the group, I actually experienced this with
3:24
Beth because unbeknownst to her, I was trolling her to be a speaker today
3:33
And I probably said that exact thing to you. I probably said, how are you
3:39
Exactly. Cause it had been a while since we've talked. Right. So this was like absolutely perfect
3:46
And you know, I've referred you multiple times. So that's, and that's so true. That's usually when
3:53
you go and check that LinkedIn profile, cause you want to pull that link and share it with someone
3:58
Exactly And I tell you another part two to this is if you look at who looked at your profile and you see a second connection so someone you don know yet but there someone in between you that
4:12
looks like they might be an interesting connection or somebody you would like to know
4:17
Again, there's a reason they came to your profile. You don't know what it is
4:21
So you can, in a connection invite, say something similar. Notice you stopped by my profile
4:27
I'm so curious what made you, how you found me. And it looks like we might have something, you know, whatever you might say in the invite
4:36
But first connections, those are gold. And then second connections, same thing
4:41
And of course, what's the number one thing that you and I chatted about when we talked
4:44
about this tip? You need to do it every day. Yes, especially if you have the free version of LinkedIn, because you're only going to
4:53
see the most recent five people who have looked at your profile
4:56
assuming you're in, have your set to be public when you visit someone else's profile
5:02
If you're in anonymous, you don't get to see who looked at your profile. That's such a great tip
5:07
And I think I'm gonna leave it right there because I know it's leaving everyone with like
5:12
I'm gonna go look and I'm gonna see and do this right now
5:15
Everyone get on your LinkedIn profile. Take a look and see who's been there
5:19
Beth, thanks a lot
